WCVM – Veterinary Medical Centre

The Food Animal Field Service Veterinarian will work within a collaborative team, providing high-quality care to client-owned animals in their home environment. The role combines clinical excellence, teaching students, and an outstanding quality of life based on a 37.5-hour work week. A key advantage of this position is its sustainable work schedule, including a shared on-call rotation. The current service consists of 3 veterinarians and is expected to grow to 5.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides high-quality care to client-owned animals in their home environment, including after regular business hours
  • Utilizes and assimilates available clinical information to make decisions regarding patient care
  • Deals with emerging and unpredictable events involving large animals
  • Participates in the teaching and mentoring of students
  • Ensures the maintenance and growth of the Food Animal Field Service and reproductive services caseload of the VMC
  • Provides additional teaching duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • A DVM degree or equivalent
  • Licenced, or eligible for licensure, with the SVMA
  • An advanced degree, appropriate specialty board certification, or both, are preferred
  • Experience in mixed or food animal practice is desirable
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan driver’s licence (or eligibility to obtain one), an acceptable driving record as determined by the University of Saskatchewan, and the willingness and ability to travel throughout the region
  • Experience in clinical instruction and mentorship are assets
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team
