CFIA releases new CMIB - Old and new both valid until Dec 2018

New CMIB

New CMIB published on CFIA’s website April 4, 2018

CFIA has been working on a new version of the Compendium of Medicating Ingredient Brochures (CMIB) to better align with Health Canada’s regulatory and policy changes related to Medically Important Antimicrobials (MIA).

The new CMIB was published on the CFIA’s website on April 4, 2018 (see announcement attached); however, the policy changes for MIAs only take effect on December 1, 2018. During the transition period, between April 1 and November 30, 2018, both CMIBs (the current version as well as the new version) will be valid. A PDF version of the current CMIB is attached to this email for reference as it has been removed from CFIA’s website.

The new CMIB has a different look than the current version and includes all approved in-feed medications, whether over-the-counter or prescription. Additional indexes have also been added to help search for information. As of December 1, 2018, only the new CMIB will be valid and CFIA inspectors will issue corrective actions for non-compliance with the new CMIB.

To help with the transition, ANAC has developed a fact sheet in collaboration with CFIA which is available on our website (also attached to this email). Further guidance on AMR initiatives can also be found on ANAC’s Antimicrobial Stewardship page. This page will be updated as more resources become available.

The CMIB web page contains the most up-to-date version and should be referenced frequently. To receive CMIB updates as they are published on the Agency’s website, you can subscribe at http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/util/listserv/listserve.shtml.
